Transformation Tips for the Family

In this article Coach Gavin McDowell and personal trainer in Sphere Fitness, Maynooth outlines some great tips to get you AND your family moving boosting your health and energy

So one of the biggest obstacles people face in there everyday lives is the area of time management, especially with kids and families.

Sometimes I dont even have to open my mouth to get the “You don’t have 6 kids” look.

It will be tough to find the time to exercise no doubt about it, but sometimes you have to find the time to prioritise yourself, who else will do that for you?

So these are my tips to stay fit and healthy, while managing a busy family life.

Tip number 1

Find something you enjoy, wheather its the gym, going out for a walk or run, swimming etc… (it might even involve the kids)

Tip number 2

Have a goal. In fact I had a client who’s goal it was to see his kids grow up! To be able to play and keep up with them as they got older. If there is no destination how can anyone help you to get there.

Tip number 3

Be Positive. You’ll get to your goal much quicker. The connection is proven, make it work for you not agasint you. I’ve often seen people admire Johnny or Mary 20 feet away for being able to do a particular exercise. “But I’ll never be able to do that”….well now you definitely won’t.

Tip number 4

Early Risers take a bow. The best time to prioritise yourself. Get it done early, tick the box off and get on with your day.

Tip number 5

Less CAN be more. Think Quality over quantity, it might only be twice a week instead of three or four, but go hard. With limited time you can get more out of it and enjoy it more.

Tip number 6

Commit to it. One client of mine started off by telling me these sessions were appointments in his online calendar where colleagues and associates could see he wasn’t available.

Tip number 7

You dont have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great. If you haven’t heard the quote already hammer it in to your head now. Just turn up, get it going, a friend of mine said once said they had to get in shape first before going to a gym….. No.

Start where you are, no limitations.
