Weekly Health Bulletin 02/09/09

This weeks health bulletin is a continuation of last weeks bulletin concerning calm foods.

Acids & Alkalines for calm.

There are two types of foods in any diet: acid forming foods and alkaline forming foods. The ideal calm diet maintains a ratio of alkalines to acids of about 80:20.
Upsetting this ratio in favour of the acids – that is, consuming too many acid producing foods – contributes not only to illness, but to feeling stress.
Conversely, consuming greater proportions of alkaline foods, particularly at stressfull times, will help you cope better.
Alkaline-forming foods (ideally 80% of your diet) are: whole grain flour and cereals, fruits, vegetables, especially uncooked.
Acid forming foods (ideally 20% of your diet) are: coffee, meat, sugar, processed foods, white flour, nuts and preservatives.
Maintain this ratio of 80:20 and you will be well on your way to nulifying the negative effects of stress.
Here are a list of foods for anyone contemplating a calm diet.

Sprouts, Bananas, Liver, kiwifruit, tomatoes, dries beans, eggs, wheatgerm, sesame seeds, yoghurt and oats.

Next week we shall elaborate a little more on the calm diet.

Thanks & stay healthy,
The Gym team.
