LAURA’S STORY – MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Like anyone starting something new there were always obstacles, reservations and that feeling of comfort that is gained from ‘not’ starting.

Mum of 2 young children, Laura Halpin was no different:

“My biggest obstacle was my mind. I always had an excuse not to go for a walk or run or go to the gym. That one chocolate bar wont make a difference…I’ll start tomorrow”

Like anyone the inner voices can sometimes take grip and you are left wondering if anything will change. Laura was no different. Particularly with the pressures of raising 2 young boys:

“I felt like I was busy enough with having 2 small boys busy home life, busy work…but in fact I had plenty of time and options to make a change. I just needed a push to make the first step…no big drama..one step at a time”

It can be hard to make that first step. It is the hardest and Laura was no different but she managed to curtail the voice that can lead you frustrated and wondering if anything will change. Thankfully they have.

“My fitness levels are so much better now. I even started running again. I love to run. I even find myself signing up for races and challenges. I love that its time for me”

Support, encouragement and that gentle nudge at the right time are vital parts of the process:

“Everyone is so encouraging and helpful and they have helped me all the way even when I had speed bump when I returned no judgment just smiling encouraging faces”

It takes time. With consistency and endeavour anything really is achievable. Pretty quickly it was clear that consistency, rather than one-off workouts were the name of the game.

Getting something done rather than nothing led to her own feeling of satisfaction. Much to her own surprise the results have been tangible and there to witness.

‘I have lost 12kgs and counting…I have dropped 2 dress sizes and I feel much better in myself. I have more energy for my boys and I am hungry for more”

Congratulations, Laura you are Sphere’s member of the month.
